Around 40 life insurance jobs are thought to be under threat. The jobs, at Aviva UK Life in York, are part of Halifax administration on behalf of Lloyds Banking Group. The group has ended their third-party supplier agreement with Aviva and will bring all life insurance and pensions administration in-house over the next three years.
At this stage, it is unsure which members of staff could relocated to Bristol or Edinburgh. However, the likely affect is 40 redundancies from York by the end of 2012. Local politicians have asked to discuss the job losses, and insurance company Aviva has pledged to minimise their impact, and that they consider redundancy a last option.
David Barral, the CEO of Aviva UK Life, reportedly said: "We are confident that as the work gradually transfers back to Lloyds Banking Group that we can find other roles in York for all but a small number of employees."
