According to a survey by the insurance company Legal &General, the work carried out by mothers around the house is worth as much as £32,000 per annum. However, just 53 per cent have life insurance .
According to the ‘Value of a mum’ study, the average mother spends 74 hours each week on household chores and childcare. To replace this work with professional help would cost some £32,812 per annum. Despite this, just 53% of mums have life insurance cover and just 26% have critical illness cover.
Speaking for Legal &General, Alan Ferguson reportedly commented: "Mums are a rock for many families. Life insurance and critical illness cover can help provide peace of mind that a family could maintain its living standards if mum wasn’t around."
