According to Asda Life, the life insurance division of supermarket giant Asda, people who smoke and quite the habit this year on No Smoking Day could cut their costs on life insurance premiums.
Ex-smokers will also save money on cigarettes, not to mention improving their health . Premiums for life insurance and critical illness insurance can be cut by 50 per cent, Asda reportedly said.
However, if someone quits on March 11th, it will take a year before insurance companies will consider them to be a non-smoker. Furthermore, factors such as age, weight and health will all come into play.
Asda Life senior policy adviser Matt Morris reportedly commented: "It is important to make sure you have a new policy in place before cancelling your existing one, as your new policy could turn up some nasty surprises in underwriting and may even be declined if your health has changed."
