This week sees the final departure of the Norwich Union brand name, one of the oldest and most established in the history of life insurance and financial services . Aviva, the parent company, are planning to boost their global profile.

The rebranding has been billed as one of the largest in UK history, with Sunday marked as the official changeover date. The Norwich Union name extends back to 1797.

Aviva trades in insurance and other businesses across 28 different countries. The aim of the rebrand has been to maximise the profile of this insurance company . Aviva is in the top five insurance companies in the world.

The chief executive of Aviva UK Insurance, Igal Mayer, reportedly commented: "I am really excited to be bringing Aviva to the UK. Since we announced it last year we have been on a journey which has involved a great deal of hard work by all our employees, both to make the necessary changes and to communicate those changes to our customers, brokers and business partners. But this is far more than a name change. Over more than 200 years Norwich Union has built up great strengths as a company, and it is those strengths which we will take with us as we build Aviva in the UK around our customers, partners and brokers."
