Insurance company Swiftcover are the focus of an investigation by the advertising watchdog following news that several musicians were refused cover despite the company featuring musician Iggy Pop in their advertising campaign.
The Advertising Standards Authority has faced 12 complaints regarding musicians and entertainers being turned down by the company. In the adverts, legendary musician Iggy Pop, of ‘lust for life’ fame, claims that he has insurance and urges others to get Swiftcovered. The adverts reportedly cost £25 million.
The head of marketing for Swiftcover, Tina Shortle, reportedly commented: " Insurance premiums are based on a number of different data, including the historic claims costs for specific occupations. This means that we do not provide cover to some professions that, according to that data, have a higher level of claim costs."
