The ABI (Association for British Insurers) has created a new series of guidelines that clearly advise gay men that they will not have to undergo an HIV test in order to get a life insurance policy .
Most insurance companies in the UK take their lead from the ABI, and the consumer guide is likely to be the standard policy in the UK from this point forward. The guide has long been due for an update due to equality issues, a strong topic within the insurance industry recently.
The ABI was reported as stating: "changes being made across the industry to ensure that people in civil partnerships are treated the same as married couples." The Assistant director of the ABI, Nick Kirwan, was reported as commenting: "This builds on the good work done by the insurance industry to ensure lesbian and gay people are treated fairly, and have access to practical information about insurance ."
