The issue of who will succeed Standard Life chief executive Sandy Crombie, if indeed he plans to retire at all, are foremost in the life insurance news today.

Crombie, who has served Standard Life for many years, has not named a date on which he will step down. Standard Life are the fifth-biggest insurance company in the UK, and are intent on driving growth forward.

Sandy Crombie had previously intimated that he would retire when he hits 60. However, whether this holds true remains to be seen. Several key employees of Standard Life are poised to step up to the role. Experts say that Standard Life needs to act soon to keep shareholders happy.
