Drinkers will face life insurance increases

Mon, 29 Dec 2008

Those drinkers who consume above the recommended daily and weekly intake of alcohol could end up paying much higher life insurance premiums. Furthermore, those that drink heavily could even end being refused life insurance altogether.

Even those alcohol-drinkers who consume moderate amounts could face higher insurance premiums under new rules. Insurance companies including Norwich Union, Legal and General, the AA and Direct Line will all increase premiums for drinks.

An AA spokesperson was reported as commenting: "Heavy drinkers are more likely to suffer from liver disease, high blood pressure and strokes. They are also more likely to have an accident, possibly fall into the road, and they are more likely to be involved in a fight."
