According to recent reports in the life insurance news, ex-smokers who say they have given up could have to take tests when it comes to applying for a life insurance policy . The report highlights the need to be open and honest when applying for life insurance .
The charity Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) said that although lower monthly premiums could be possible for those that have given up smoking, applicants must be open and honest when applying for a policy .
Some insurance companies request tests to measure carbon monoxide output. Amanda Sandford, research manager for Ash, reportedly commented: "There are reasons for offering non-smokers better premiums . We do know that those people will live longer. There are easy ways of testing whether people really are smokers or ex-smokers."
