Millions in America have no life insurance

Mon, 24 Sep 2007

Millions of American citizens have no life insurance policy, leaving an enormous protection gap and widespread underinsurance. One life insurance organisation is urging consumers to consider who could suffer if they were to die unexpectedly.

The LIFE Foundation, once the Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education, a non-profit body that is funded by the insurance industry, urges customers to use a life insurance calculator to see if their families are covered.

The society estimate that some 60 million American adults have no life insurance or too little coverage, and they have therefore designated September to be ‘life insurance awareness month.’

President of the foundation, David Woods, reportedly commented: "Nobody wants to think about dying. People know they need life insurance, but they figure they'll get to getting it someday - just not today. It's something they put off."
