Lower life insurance premiums for the fit and healthy

Wed, 26 Sep 2007

For those who make an effort to exercise more and eat healthily, a new life insurance policy could find them paying less.

The life insurance policy, called PruProtect, is a new joint venture between Prudential and the South African insurance company Discovery. The policy is the first of several, including life cover, income protection insurance, and critical illness cover .

Policyholders can take exercise, eat healthy meals, and give up smoking to earn discounts on their annual premiums. Furthermore, those taking the cover will be offered cheaper gym membership, free fitness assessments, stop smoking course discounts, and health screenings.

The chief exec of PruProtection, Shaun Mattisson, reportedly commented: "PruProtect encourages individuals to take charge of their health and wellbeing and rewards them for doing so. Our aim is to start tackling the negative image of protection insurance products in the UK by launching a company that people can interact with and which reflects their lifestyle."
