Critical illness insurance does serve a purpose

According to an industry expert, critical illness insurance is much more important than many people think, and offers benefits that life insurance cover never could. The chief executive of bestdealinsurance.co.uk, David Thomson, pledged his support for the product, which he said was particularly effective for those who face a sudden diagnosis of long-term illness.

Thomson reportedly commented: "It gives you choices rather than life insurance which is designed to look after someone who is left behind after you are gone. Critical illness cover ensures that you don't get left behind."

However, Thomson reportedly urged would-be insurance policy holders to play close attention to their small print. That way, he said, the right level of cover would be achieved and any exclusions to the policy would be obvious.
