Be truthful on life insurance application forms

Wed, 14 Mar 2007

When filling out an insurance form, particularly for something as important as life insurance, consumers need to be as truthful as possible. Failure to reveal a condition, or lying about your health and habits, could be the direct route to an invalidated claim.

According to the company Moneyfacts, those smokers who lie on their life insurance forms and claim to have kicked the habit could end up with their claims invalidated if they later contract a disease related to smoking.

A spokesperson for Moneyfacts confirmed that: "It is usually the case that insurers rely on people to be honest rather than making their policy holders go in for medicals." Smoking and life insurance have been in the news a lot lately, as the extent to which a consumer can save on insurance premiums through smoking cessation has been revealed.

Many insurance claims are rejected each year as people fail to disclose information about their medical conditions, as well as not reading the small print of their policies.
