One of the oldest mutual friendly societies in England, Shepherds Friendly, has released a new income protection insurance policy that could help self-employed people who have children.
The Shepherds Income Protection Plan is directed at those people who are self-employed and aged between 16 and 60. If the policyholder falls sick or has an accident, the income protection plan means that they are covered for 60 per cent of regular income, or 60 per cent of net profit for the self-employed.
For people with children, they can be added to the policy to cover extra expense and reduced income. The Chief Executive of Shepherds Friendly Society, Geoff Spencer, reportedly commented: "Our new plan is competitively priced and flexible, and will be medically underwritten by a dedicated tele-underwriting organisation. It is designed to provide benefit to the self-employed or anyone who does not receive an income, or limited income, from their employer in the event that they are unable to work due to accident or sickness."
