Vegetarians could get lower life insurance

Tue, 31 Jul 2007

According to recent news, a fresh type of life insurance policy offers lower premium payments to those who choose a vegetarian diet.

The policy, launched in the UK by Animal Friends Insurance, is pitched at those people who do not eat meat and are looking for life cover . A 6 per cent discount on a standard life insurance is offered due to the medical evidence in place suggesting a lesser likelihood of major illnesses.

According to the group, the evidence indicates that vegetarians were less likely to develop life-threatening medical problems, making their life assurance cheaper. Animal Friends, who are not-for-profit, said the benefits of vegetarianism had not been given enough weight in the insurance industry.

Liverpool Victoria will underwrite the policy.
