Insurance company could face name change

Mon, 23 Jul 2007

Could Norwich Union, the largest insurance company in the UK, face losing its name and brand? According to recent newspaper reports, the chief executive of parent company Aviva, is considering doing exactly that.

Andrew Moss, the new chief executive of Aviva, one of the largest insurance groups in the world, is considering axing Norwich Union and simply using the Aviva brand, in order to boost global awareness of the business.

Aviva sell general insurance and life insurance under the Norwich Union brand in the UK, but usually trades as Aviva internationally. UK life insurance policies are joint branded. Aviva say no decision has been made, and any changes would take years, but the reaction has been hostile.
