Better lifestyle means cheaper life insurance

Fri, 12 Jan 2007

Life insurance news this week concerns the influence of lifestyle on your life insurance premium . Yesterday, the effect of weight on life insurance was highlighted, but to really make a difference to your life insurance premium, you should consider every aspect of your lifestyle, including exercise . The changing face of life insurance will involve insurance companies taking more and more interest into their policyholder’s health .

Several major life insurance companies have release new criteria for determining premium cost. These include Body Mass Index scores. If a company determines that BMI is too high (usually over 30) they can dramatically increase life insurance policies . According to Legal and General, there is an acceptable range of BMI. The protection marketing director at the company, Bonnie Burns, said: "Anyone finding themselves outside this range may find that their premiums are higher than for someone at the same height as them but with a thinner waist."

Despite controversy over the U-turn by the government on pension term assurance, the Association of British Insurers welcomed government plans to ‘simplify and modify’ the tax system on life insurance.
