Edinburgh based life insurance company Standard Life are to axe 15 Edinburgh employees as they move their design centre to Canada . The chief executive of the company, Sandy Crombie, revealed the plans to staff in an email .

Standard Life announced last week that they would shut down their protection business . Relocating the design aspect to Montreal was perceived as the most cost-effective place to locate, and save money on labour, staff and premises.

The role of the design team in the functioning of the life insurance company includes creating annual reports, presentations and brochures. Standard Life have shed thousands of jobs in cost-cutting measures. Crombie reportedly commented: "I strongly believe that the changes we are making will build a dynamic, sustainable, global business for the future."
