Life insurance changes greeted

Mon, 30 Apr 2007

Life insurance, critical illness insurance, and income protection insurance are all to undergo changes made by the Financial Service Authority. The FSA have classed these protection policies as a type of insurance with no investment, making policies easier to access. The Association of British Insurers went on record praising the changes, saying that they will be of benefit to consumers.

The director general of general insurance and health at the ABI, Nick Starling, reportedly commented: "Today's decision will make products such as life insurance, which already provides valuable peace of mind for millions of individuals and families, more convenient for a wider range of people."

The changes will make life cover purchase easier for a range of customers, particularly older people looking for a policy. Hopefully the changes will lessen the life insurance protection gap in the UK.
