Celebrity life insurance

Thu, 14 Sep 2006

Ant and Dec, the popular celebrity comedic duo, are reported to have insured each other’s lives for a figure approaching £2 million.

Ant and Dec are well known as the biggest entertainment duo in the UK, and although their life insurance figure may seem massive to many people, in celebrity terms insurance stakes are high.

A spokesman for Lloyd’s insurance, who is also an expert celebrity insurer, said that the life insurance figure was just a starting point in the celebrity world. Jonathon Thomas said: "First of all we establish the income stream of each individual, then we estimate how much it would be diminished if one or the other could not perform. So if the two are insuring each other, then £2m sounds about right."

When people insure each other, it is up to them to prove to the insurance companies that they would lose out financially in the event of the other person’s death. In order to insure another person, your business or livelihood must be directly connected to their health .

Apparently, some of the more eccentric policies are nothing more than publicity stunts. So, when the next star insured their nose or hair for a multi-million pound figure, don’t believe everything you read!

Life insurance in the UK is undergoing a difficult period, with many consumers seeking pension term assurance instead, or avoiding life insurance entirely due to being financially over-stretched.
