Legal & General, one of the leading UK life insurance providers,  offers a comprehensive life insurance policy, which includes a competitive range of products aimed at helping to protect the lives and health of its many customers.

Legal & General offer both general life cover (level term life insurance) and mortgage life insurance (decreasing life insurance), and also includes Terminal Illness benefit as standard. This enables you to receive a payout if you are diagnosed with an eligible terminal illness prior to the last 18 months of the plan.

Decreasing life insurance is aimed at helping customers pay off their mortgage in the event of their death during the policy term, as the insurance amount decreases in line with your remaining mortgage debt. By taking out level term life insurance, the amount insured will remain the same throughout the policy term.

Life insurance premiums may be taken over periods of up to 40 years where, in the event, of your death, a guaranteed cash sum will be paid out.

Their policies also include a range of additional options such as critical illness cover and waiver of payment. The critical illness policy, which can be taken out on a guaranteed or reviewable premium basis, pays out a lump sum if you are diagnosed with one of the specified illnesses or disabilities and cover for your children is included at no extra charge. The cost is determined by a number of factors including sex, age, occupation, smoker status, health and the amount of cover.

The waiver of payment benefit option means that your premiums are paid for if you suffer an illness or accident which stops you working for more than six months. The premiums are waived after an initial 6 months and will continue to be waived until you:

• Return to work or fitness;
• Reach the end of your policy term;
• Reach your 60th birthday; or You die.
